The Big Apple {in june}

August 24, 2010

So… I went to the Big Apple back in June for my 3oth Birthday. Here’s what I did…

Went to the Met and saw Big Bambú installation which is a a site-specific installation on the roof. It is absolutely breath taking. This crazy bamboo structure is HUGE and visitors witness the continuing creation as it is constructed throughout by the artists and a team of rock climbers. Crazy.

Went for a stroll through Central Park…

Found the biggest Dahlias I have ever seen at a farmers market…

took in some of my favorite artists…

Rauschenberg

Kara Walker

Spent some time at Mood and pretended I was on Project Runway…

Went for a stroll with  Zach Braff and his girl friend down the streets of NY..

and took in the views at Grand Central Station…

Just to name a few things.

Paper Cut

July 27, 2010

I was asked by the Sarah Mac Band to design the album artwork for the last single in their “Single Revolution” project. It was a great honor to be a part of this amazing project.

I had a lot of fun with it,   so I wanted to share it with the world….

finally

Wowzers… its been a long time since I last updated.

Here’s the short version of whats been going on in Handmade Maggie world…

Elephant Pillows have been a big hit. I am having a hard time keeping them in stock, just like the owls. Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally not complaining- this is an amazing problem to have! Thank you for all of the great name suggestions. I am having a hard time deciding what to call them, so for now they are “elephant pillows”. Lame- I know, but it’s pure and simple.

In other news, I FINALLY sent a box of Handmade Maggie goodies to Wholly Craft, the shop in Columbus, Ohio. It should arrive on their doorstep today. I felt a huge sense of accomplishment when I left the box in the hands of the Fed Ex lady. Right the and there, a weight was lifted off of my shoulders. I just love that feeling…. it’s the little things in life.

Now, I am focusing on finishing my website,  and contacting more shops around the country. Oh, and making.making.making. Luckily I now have Mondays free to work in the studio since Textures is officially closed on Mondays for the summer. Watch out world, here I come!

More to come, soonish…

The big reveal

March 30, 2010

Cue the Drum roll please……
So as I told you before, I am starting a new pillow line to add to the already popular Owl Pillow. I am here now to officially fill you in on what’s to come. I am excited to announce that after many requests, hangmademaggie will now offer Elephant Pillows!!! Yipppeeee!!!

So now I am in the process of coming up with an official name for these tiny packiderms. Here’s where you come in… I need your help coming up with a name. I call my owls “wise creatures” or “wise guys”. So, I need something along those same lines. If you have any creative suggestions, leave me a comment and we’ll go from there.

Yummyness

March 23, 2010

So… I just got a small shipment of some really yummy fabrics. I can not wait to sink my little teeth into these fanciful prints to create some fantastic creations. I will be debuting a new pillow line in the next couple of days. I have made a prototype, and will now make a bunch more. So hold on to your hats and get ready for what’s to come….

I have been trying to spread the Handmade Maggie love by not only selling it in my own shop (Textures Handmade Market), but also in other shops around the country. This is my newest adventure… spreading myself thin. :) So, I applied to this amazing shop in Columbus, OH called Wholly Craft , and I was accepted. These guys want to sell my Tiny Owls, bunting, and tooth fairy pillows. I keep trying to get a box together to send them, but I cant seem to  keep the little owls in my own shop. VERY SOON- my Handmade Maggie creations will be making a trip all the way to Ohio. Yippeee!!!  My sister sent me a link to their website a couple of months ago, which is how I found and feel in love with this little “brick and mortar shop”.

Here’s to a handmade America!!

Here are some pictures that I have taken over the years of the southern charm that I love so much…

Gobbs of door Knobs

February 10, 2010

I am a lover of many things, but one of my main loves is old door knobs. I think they are so beautiful. Especially when I am in an older house, I always check out their door knobs. When I was growing up, my grandparents lived in the most magical house in Columbus, GA. They had the most amazing door knobs. This may be one of the reasons that I am now drawn to them. They ended up selling the house many years ago. The church across the street ended up buying it and tearing it down to make a parking lot… totally sad. When I found out the fate of this magical place, my sister, brother-in-law and I went back in and took some of the said knobs. I mean, they were going to tear the place down… nobody was going to miss them…right?! I still have them and look at them often. I have been trying to figure out the perfect way to reuse them for many years now. One day I will think of something.

These are not the knobs from the magical house. These are pictures I took of some knobs from an old chapel that my aunt and uncle got married in a few years ago.
